ACCA PM guide
How to pass ACCA PM first time.
ACCA PM has a ~40% pass rate, which means roughly six in ten candidates leave the exam without a pass. The candidates who pass first time aren't smarter — they follow a repeatable plan. This is that plan, condensed into 12 weeks.
Weeks 1–4: build the technical base
Cover syllabus areas B and C first — specialist costing and decision-making. Watch or read one topic, then do 20+ OT questions on that topic the same day. Do not move on until you can score 70%+ on mixed OT practice for that topic. Target 12–15 hours a week.
Weeks 5–8: variances, budgeting, and performance measurement
Sections D and E. Variances are the highest-yield topic in the exam — planning/operational, mix/yield, sales price/volume. Drill until each variance takes under 90 seconds. Start Section C written practice this block: write out full answers to two past-paper 20-markers per week, hand-timed.
Weeks 9–10: full syllabus recap and weakness fix
Take a diagnostic mock. Score your Section A and B honestly. Anything under 60% goes back into daily flashcard practice. Rewrite the two weakest Section C answers using the examiner's marking guide, not the model answer.
Weeks 11–12: two full timed mocks
Sit at least two complete 3-hour 15-minute mocks in exam conditions. Mark them against the examiner's report language. The gap between your mock score and the pass mark tells you exactly what to fix in the final week.
Exam day technique
Section A: 1.8 minutes per question, flag and move on. Section B: read the scenario twice before answering. Section C: spend the first 3 minutes planning each 20-marker — headings, calculation approach, recommendation. The examiner rewards structure.
